Love’N Spoonfuls: Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies

Mobile App helps spread the word about a happy, healthy local hangout

Cherie Dercqu is happy to bring healthy to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. As co-owner of Love’N Spoonfuls, she enjoys providing a fun, colorful gathering place for families and friends to meet and eat wholesome frozen yogurt and smoothies.

“I am from this community,” Cherie says. “It’s a great family community, and Love’N Spoonfuls really wants to be a part of it.”

To that end, Cherie and her business partners purchased a mobile app from MobileAppLoader. Their app helps them reach out to many hundreds of people in the community in order to announce yummy new yogurt flavors, special holiday treats and discounts

“It’s a cool way of reaching out to kids, especially,” she says. “They always have their phones in their faces.”

They have also used their mobile app to announce community fundraisers, spearheaded to raise money for survivors and heroes of a tragedy involving violence at a nearby school.

Cherie says that she is not the most technical person in their world but nevertheless finds her mobile app easy to use. In fact, she has recommended MobileAppLoader to other businesspeople.

“Prices are very reasonable, and it has everything we were looking for,” she says.

Gadabout SalonSpas: Our App Users Are Engaged & Excited

How to Create iPhone and Android Apps for Hair Salons. It’s easy…

With seven locations in Tucson, AZ, Gadabout SalonSpas knows that marketing and customer relations have gone mobile. That’s why Gadabout built a salon app using MobileAppLoader online.

“People are more apt to read a push notification than an email,” says Megan Jasper, director of operations and marketing.

Push notifications are mobile app messages that are sent from businesses directly to the home screens of their customers’ phones. They are highly visible and enable businesses to communicate about special events, sales, new product inventory, and more.

Jasper says the ability to engage customers with push notifications is far greater and less expensive than email marketing. Currently, the salon outsources its email management, which has proven pricey and not terribly effective.

“App users are engaged. They’re active. Push notifications are so much more cost-effective than email,” she says.

The benefit of an iPhone and Android App for my salon

So far, more than 1,500 customers have downloaded Gadabout’s app – and that’s with very little publicity, Jasper says. Her goal is to triple that number while phasing out email.

“I’d rather reach 3,000-5,000 people who are engaged, excited and moveable than send out 20,000 emails and only hit 5%,” she says.

To further promote the app, Jasper plans to put Gadabout’s app icon on all collateral. It will show up on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and other social media forums. She also has an app promotion program in the works: “Download Gadabout’s free app and get a complimentary gift.”

The salon app’s embedded loyalty card (like an electronic punch card) is something Jasper intends to use as a way of increasing repeat business. She says she’ll promote the loyalty programs with push notifications.

Making a Salon App

“Gadabout is 35 years young,” says Jasper. “We appeal to all ages. We want to be the salon you select. Email is the traditional route for getting the word out, but there’s a lot of excitement around our mobile app.”

Other features of Gadabout’s mobile app:

-       One-touch calling

-       Locations finder

-       Appointment scheduling

-       Push Notifications

-       Embedded email

Mobile Apps for the Fitness Profession

Boot Camp Trainer from California says her Mobile App Fits the Business of Staying Fit

Four mornings a week, at a quiet park in Northern California, hardcore moms gather for burpees, squats and push-ups.

Rain or shine, they knock out endless sets of calisthenics to music blasting through an otherwise peaceful expanse of green.

“Building an App is SO much easier than building muscles,” laughs trainer Ruth Ashkenazi. “Believe me, building my app online was simple in comparison to the 60 burpees I made my clients do this morning, and sending push notifications takes me no more than two minutes, tops.”

Ashkenazi built a do-it-yourself iPhone and Android app online with MobileAppLoader.

“There’s a definite business to fitness,” she says. “Personally, I’d prefer jumping around all day, feeling that adrenaline rush and my muscles burn. But as a trainer, I need to pay attention to my bottom line. I need to treat fitness as a business, and part of doing that – a BIG PART of doing that – is communicating with my clientele.”

Ashkenazi, whose total clientele numbers in the dozens, communicates via email but “the problem is, not everyone checks their email, believe it or not.”

“Group texting feels intrusive,” she says. “And it gets a little crazy when everyone starts responding to the same group text …

“I like sending push notifications via my Mobile App, because people can email me back or chat with me one-on-one through my mobile app. It’s the perfect solution for letting people know – in real time – what’s going on.”

“The Northern California drought finally broke with a few rainstorms this week, so I was able to send Push Notifications out to boot campers who were wondering if we were still on.

“ON? OF COURSE WE’RE STILL ON! Rain or shine,” Ashkenazi says. “But if we need a change of venue, like switching to a nearby park with a rain-proof awning, my mobile app is a great vehicle for getting the message out.”

The app is also a great way to encourage people who’ve slacked.

“With fitness, as with any business, you have some clients who sort-of disappear over time. That always makes me sad because I want people to stay healthy and strong, which takes consistency,” Ashkenazi says.

“From time-to-time I send push notifications that are specifically aimed at encouraging the hard-core, as well as those playing hooky – you know, those who have been skipping class. Communication through the app reminds all of them that we’re here! We’re at the park, literally working our butts off and having a BLAST. Come join us!”

The dedicated members of “Durable You Fitness” have been showing up multiple times a week, month after month, for an hour of heart-pounding heroics that get results.

“One year ago, none of us could do what we do now,” says Ashkenazi. “You asked me how my mobile app fits with my business… Not to sound cheesy but, like exercise, it gets results…

“I love fitness. It’s my passion. Fitness is what I want to share. My mobile app helps me do exactly that. It helps me share.”

Notre Dame School Scores an A plus with Mobile App

Founded in 1852, Notre Dame is a private K-12 school in Portsmouth, Ohio with a rich history of inspiring academic excellence, religious commitment and service among its pupils (ND Schools). With roots dating back 160 years, Notre Dame is constantly moving forward, as evidence by its use of mobile apps.

Notre Dame’s apps (built by MobileAppLoader) include a dashboard on the homepage with instant links to the school’s athletics, academics, news, phone number, lunch menus, calendar, email and more.

“School information is always at your fingertips,” says Drew Mader, assistant director of development for the school. “Parents and students come into the office telling us how much they’re enjoying our apps.”

One of the most popular features are updates – also known as Push Notifications – which parents and students receive directly to their phones, like instant messages.

“They don’t have to go out and get the information,” Mr. Mader says. “Everything is brought right to them. They rely on it a lot.”

The school uses Push Notifications to send academic announcements and reminders of school events. On any given “game-day,” Mr. Mader also sends Push Notifications to announce the times and locations of different athletic activities. During the games, he uses his mobile app to send updates – live from the field – to fans who want to stay in-the-loop with scores but can’t be physically at the field. Via updates they receive on their phones, they can cheer from wherever they are…

This year’s athletic schedule was particularly busy and successful, and many teams had competitions that overlapped. Push Notifications enabled swim team members to keep up with their friends on different courts playing girls and boys basketball.

“Everybody loves to keep in touch,” says Mr. Mader. “Our mobile app makes that easy.”

Car Dealership Builds Easy, Do It Yourself Mobile Apps: "We didn't overthink it"

Meeting Expectations & Surpassing Them: Toyota of San Bernardino builds an easy-to-use mobile app to further its multi-faceted mission

“A mobile app is something that people expect,” says Jim Stark, grassroots manager for Toyota of San Bernardino. “We’ve kept our app simple, but our customers can do everything they want through it: schedule service appointments, access our inventory, rent a car…”

Stark says he chose MobileAppLoader because the company was recommended and because “it was the easiest, most convenient, and well-priced.”

“For us, it’s important to design an app that saves our customers time. Cumbersome apps don’t save time, and they defeat the purpose of having an app,” he says.

Toyota of San Bernardino developed a robust, full-featured app for iPhones, iPads and Android devices “but we didn’t overthink it. All of the features we included are clear, usable and easily accessible with a total of 9 simple buttons. MobileAppLoader enabled us to design exactly what we wanted.”

“It was exactly what we were looking for,” Stark says. “And the people at MobileAppLoader were very simple to work with.”

Though mobile apps can be simple and do-it-yourself, operating a car dealership is very multi-faceted. “It is not just about selling cars,” according to Stark. In fact, Toyota of San Bernardino considers a big part of its mission to be supporting its local community.

The dealership plays a significant role in educating consumers and helping local institutions, like students at a nearby university and children who lack dental insurance. For heartwarming details, see: http://toyotasb.com/Community.aspx

The dealership’s mobile app also plays a big role in getting the message out. Push Notifications (also called: Near Me Alerts - see below) arrive directly to customers’ home screens. “Our app is an important part of our outreach,” Stark says. “It helps us reach a myriad of different people. It’s something that people expect.”

Don Chalmers Ford: At the Forefront with a Do-It-Yourself Mobile App

12-time Winner of the President’s Award for Outstanding Customer Service uses its mobile app to compete and offer unbeatable deals and care

Don Chalmers Ford in Rio Rancho, New Mexico prides itself on being at the forefront of technology. That’s one of the reasons it built a mobile app online with MobileAppLoader. In addition, the dealership was looking for something that the competition wasn’t offering.

“We were looking for something to propel us ahead of our competitors,” says Shauna Sadler, Marketing Specialist with Don Chalmers Ford.

That “something” came in the form of a do-it-yourself mobile app.

“We have lots of people scheduling appointments through our app, and they’re searching inventory through it,” Sadler says.

The dealership uses its app in conjunction with social media. Twice a month, Don Chalmers Ford posts an announcement on Facebook that hints at a unique “app special,” offered to anyone who downloads Don Chalmers Ford’s free app from the App Stores (Apple and/or Google Play).

Twice-monthly specials are sent via Push Notifications, which arrive directly to the home screens of customers’ smart phones. Eye-catching photos and money-saving coupons drive people to Don Chalmers Ford on the slowest days of the week, which tend to be mid-week.

The process of sending Push Notifications was “easy” and “self-explanatory,” Sadler says. In fact, she sums up the whole experience of creating a mobile app online as “simple. Almost like plug and play. [MobileAppLoader’s App-in-a-Snap wizard] really walks you through everything you need.”

Sadler describes MobileAppLoader’s customer service as “just wonderful“ and “quick to respond.”

As the 12-time winner of the President’s Award for Outstanding Customer Service, Don Chalmers Ford knows a thing or two about the subject! Three times a month, the dealership hosts an event that helps customers take care of their newly purchased vehicles. During “Owners Clinics,” for example, the dealership offers its customers a dinner, prizes, as well as a variety of car-care workshops and a tour of the location. Managers and a Microsoft Sync specialist attend the event to answer questions while making customers feel at home in the dealership.

“It’s a way for us to say thank you,” Sadler says.

It’s also a good venue for telling customers about their dealership’s mobile app and describing exclusive mobile app benefits – benefits that keep Don Chalmers Ford and its customers at the forefront of technology, service, and all-around great business!

Avissa Salon: Building Clientele and Community with its Affordable, Easy-to-Use Mobile App

Building a full-featured, branded mobile app online can be affordable and effective. Here is yet another success story.

When Wolverines and Eagles need a haircut, facial, wax and threading … or simply a home away from home to celebrate Fridays, holidays, and good times… they come to Avissa Salon in Ann Arbor, MI.

This fall, Avissa Salon used its Mobile App from MobileAppLoader to welcome Wolverine and Eagle students back to town. The salon, which is located near the campuses of the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, sent colorful push notifications with invitations to happy hours and a client appreciation event. In the past, it has announced salon specials, discounts, and even New Year's parties.

“We use push notifications every two weeks, and we get a lot of response,” says Makan Lajevardi, who founded Avissa Salon in 2012. Two of its Push Notifications (sent directly to clients’ phones) are displayed below:

Customers also book appointments through the app, which Mr. Lajevardi describes as “very affordable and very easy… I have never had any problems with our App. MobileAppLoader is a great company to work with, and I’ve referred several people to it. They have apps that meet the needs of the salon industry.”

To publicize Avissa Salon’s app and to encourage people to download it, Mr. Lajevardi has offered clients a “Complementary Eyebrow Waxing.”

He acknowledges that mobile apps come with a millennium “cool factor.” They also facilitate cool causes. Salon Avissa uses its app to promote events benefitting the community, like Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.

“It’s perfect,” he says. “I simply send out a push notification to let people know what’s taking place, and a lot of people respond."
